Dyfed-Powys Police Volunteer Cadets

Went to a great event in Newtown last night. The Dyfed-Powys Police were welcoming 10 (or was it 12) young people into the Force as Volunteer Cadets. Most of the audience was made up of proud parents and friends. Over the next two years these youngsters will have all sorts of opportunity to develop communication skills and engage in various activities. Its a pilot scheme in the Dyfed-Powys area, based on Newtown. Seems a great way to develop understanding between the Police and the policed. So much better than just watching 'The Bill'. Lets hope the scheme turns out to be a success, and is replicated in other areas.

All praise to the cadets. I hope by the time they become fully fledged officers they are allowed to police properly by a government who believe in natural justice. At the moment, if you are being terrorised in your home by thugs and yobs - you are on your own; but if you sell a golly doll in your sweet shop, use pounds and ounces in a green grocer, or say something that someone somewhere may just find a little homophobic or racist, expect the heavy brigade to smash your front door down and arrest you under the terrorism act.

My son is one of the cadets and wants to be a police officer in the future. This is a wonderful opportunity for him to experience life in the force and will also give him a BTec qualification which will give him additional CAT points when he applies to University. I was very proud when he made it through the selection process and Wednesday night was a lovely way to mark the occassion. Well done to all the Cadets.
